New Patient Appointment

Every new patient benefits from a thorough examination which is designed to evaluate your foot health and risk level for podiatry treatment. I will take a medical history and and enquire about any medications you take. A neurovascular assessment is done before moving onto the reason for your appointment. A treatment plan is then agreed on. All treatments are done with continued consent from you.

It's a good idea to have a list of your medication ready for the appointment and to plan where you would like to be treated. I will need some room to set up and the more light the better.
Simple Nails Cut

A simple nail cut appointment is a safe and hygienic way to manage your nails. This appointment is designed for people with simple non-pathological nails.
It is very common for people to present with long nails that are unable to be cut by themselves safely. You may have diabetes and want to take sensible steps to manage your risk of ulceration and associated infections, or you may have knee, hip or back issues that prevent you from reaching your toes. Whatever the reason, this is an efficient safe appointment.
Thickened Nails

Thickened nails can cause pain, discomfort and embarrassment. I am able to reduce the nails, resulting in more presentable and comfortable feet.

A bespoke treatment plan can then be recommended to address the underlying cause of the thickened nail. Often a blunt trauma to the toe has caused the nail to thicken. A fungal nail infection can also cause the nail to thicken and become discoloured and crumble. It is important to assess your footwear in case they are contributing to your condition.
Callus and Corns

Hard skin (callus and corns) is a very common issue that many people suffer from and can cause pain and discomfort. A breach in the skin resulting in an infection is the main concern.

This appointment will reduce the hard skin and dress any associated wounds resulting from the skin breaking down as a consequence of the pressure that caused the build up of hard skin.

Your skin thickens to protect itself in response to excessive pressure building up on the foot. As your skin thickens it can become dehydrated and crack. These cracks can bleed resulting in pain and an infection. Corns can also cause the underlying skin the break down and ulcerate. These conditions are a particular concern for people with diabetes or a reduced immune system.

Not only will my treatment make you feel better and reduce or stop your pain it will also reduce your risk of infection.
Toenail Reconstruction

Thickened nails can cause pain, discomfort and embarrassment. This procedure uses the remaining nail to build a new natural looking nail that only you will know has been reconstructed.
​
This treatment can be used on unsightly fungal nails to improve the appearance while the infection is being treated.

The nail lasts about 1 to 2 months depending on the patient. An ideal option for holidays and events where you bear your toes in public.

Patients range from both men and women who have thickened nails caused by repeated trauma in their sports trainers to people who have a thickened, discoloured fungal nail or nails. Many patients have a thickened nail from a single traumatic event that caused the nail to thicken in the past. Perhaps a heavy object landed on the nail causing it to thicken. Whatever the cause, nail reconstruction is an ideal way to put your mind at ease and improve the appearance of your nail or nails.
Nail Surgery

Ingrowing toe nails most commonly affect the big toenails and can occur on both toes at the same time. An ingrowing nail is where the nail cuts into the skin causing a wound that is unable to heal due to the continued presence of the nail. This can result in the wound becoming infected and painful to walk on.

I often hear from patients about long waiting times on the NHS. This service is a fast and reliable way to resolve the pain and is regarded as a permanent solution.
With the use of local anaesthetic I am able to remove the whole nail or part of the nail depending on the presenting toe. I am happy to say that due to the use of local anaesthetic, the procedure is far less painful than many imagine it to be.

This procedure has to be carried out in a podiatry clinic, not in a home environment. I am able to assess the toe at your home and book you in for the operation if required. Happily ingrowing toe nails can sometimes be treated conservatively without the need for surgery.
